If you enjoyed yesterday’s post about Annapolis Engagement Session Locations, you’ll absolutely love today’s post which takes a wider look at Chesapeake Area locations that work beautifully for your engagement session! Whether it’s downtown Baltimore or over the Bay Bridge – you won’t want to miss these beautiful location ideas for your engagement session!
Bayside Bride Loves: Federal Hill
I love Federal Hill as an engagement session location, because it’s a wonderful mix of urban cityscape and greenery. The view of the city and the harbor from the top of the hill is breathtaking, and the American Visionary Arts Museum is full of funky colors and textures! The historic rowhouses in Federal Hill make a colorful backdrop for an engagement session and it’s conveniently located near some of Baltimore’s best restaurants and bars, so I always encourage my clients to make a date night out of our session!

Bayside Bride Loves: Havre de Grace

Havre de Grace (“Harbor of Grace” in French) is a small town located at the mouth of the Susquehanna River and the head of the Chesapeake Bay. It’s a wonderful place to go, especially if you’d like to get away from the sounds of a busy city atmosphere. The boardwalk promenade area in Havre de Grace has some gorgeous spots for photos – which include the Concord Point Lighthouse, a small stone beach, and a destroyed yacht basin. If you are able to venture up to the area for sunrise, you’ll get some of the most amazing lighting for your snapshots – as the sun rises over the water for a beautiful glow. Not to mention, it’s a great place for nature photographers.

Bayside Bride Loves: Glen Echo

Glen Echo is Maryland’s best-kept secret. Seriously, girls, you’ll swoon when you walk onto the grounds. Glen Echo opened in 1891 and served as a theme park until the early 1970′s. It now functions as 1) a center for arts and multicultural events [there's even a darkroom on premise for all you photogs out there!], b) a backdrop for incredible photos, and III) an amazing wedding venue. The park features a working carousel, among other attractions, and is in my opinion, my favorite place in Maryland. The “Cuddle Up” neon sign makes for adorable couple’s photos, and the Spanish Ballroom is a gorgeous location for a reception. My favorite park about the park are the colors- bright turquoises, reds, and pale yellows. It’s such a fun, whimsical place to photograph, I can’t imagine that I’ll ever tire of going there!

Bayside Bride Loves: Georgetown

Georgetown is one of the most dynamic locations in the Chesapeake area. Nestled right between DC and Virginia, this little hub is filled with cute storefronts, fun colored walls, city textures, and a wide variety of photogenic spots for an engagement session! The overall feel of Georgetown is ‘historically urban’ with a dash of modernity here and there as you walk the cobblestone streets and peek through the brick walls and iron fences. It has a little bit of everything!

Bayside Bride Loves: The Ladew Topiary Gardens

Maggie and Tim’s engagement session took place at the beautiful Ladew Topiary Gardens in Monkton, Maryland. The perfectly manicured property provides endless opportunities for picture perfect scenery! Everywhere you turn there are beautiful gardens and lush greenery. There are also a few buildings on the property, including a gorgeous white farmhouse, that provide a unique backdrop and even more opportunities for great engagement pictures!

Bayside Bride Loves: The Smithsonian Museum & Mansion

The Smithsonian Mansion and museums on the DC Mall make for a perfect DC centric engagement session. Lots of bright colors, textures and the beautiful white limestone that DC is known for! They represent DC without having a cheesy photograph with the Capital or Washington Monument in the background. And you don’t have to pay for the pricey photography permit as you would if you were shooting at the monuments!

Bayside Bride Loves: Baltimore’s Key Highway
The Baltimore’s Inner Harbor has amazing places for an engagement session. Not only do you have the typical water and skyline shots, there’s also little places that make the location unique, such as the trees along Key Highway. The trees look like something out of the Hobbit and are beautiful with the golden, setting sun. I also like the grass/trees near the tourist center as a location for some fantastic photos, and there’s always going to Ben & Jerry’s for some icecream!

Bayside Bride Loves: Historic Ellicott City

Ellicott City is a great place to photograph (or just wander around), as there’s just so much to do! The historic section of Ellicott City contains antique/specialty shops, delicious food (restaurants and small eateries), and stone wall backdrops. If you wander the outskirts, you’ll find other excellent backdrops such as abandoned buildings and forest areas.

Bayside Bride Loves: Terrapin Park

You wouldn’t know it as it’s entrance is tucked back in an industrial park but terrapin park is an ideal e-session location. This spot has everything – beaches on the chesapeake, a stunning view of the bay bridge, wooded trails and open fields and lush meadows. Also, the fact that it’s pretty big allows you to always find a spot without the typical crowds of other parks – plus it’s dog friendly! Keep in mind that there are only port-a-johns at this park if you want to use several outfits during your session.
