Today’s DIY project was featured earlier this week in our Layers of Lovely photoshoot, and you’re probably going to see it a few more times this year. I’m really excited about the way these cakestands turned out and they couldn’t have been easier to make.
I picked up old brass candlesticks and mismatched plates at Goodwill in Annapolis. The candlesticks were around $4 a piece and most of the plates were about $2 a piece. There were two pretty China ones that I paid $4 a piece for – but that was the most expensive thing I bought. They look great on their own but even better when clustered together with several candlesticks of varying heights.
Materials
-candlesticks
-plates
-spray paint (I used Rust-Oleum)
-hot glue
-sandpaper
Directions
1. Spray paint the candlesticks with several coats of spray paint. Allow about an hour of drying time in between each coat.
2. Distress the edges of the candlesticks a little bit with sandpaper.
3. Hot glue the tops of the candlesticks to the center of the plates. Flip the whole thing over and let it dry upside down for a little bit.
4. I feel like I should add a fourth step here because this list of directions is just too dang short!
