Amongst the various Caribbean honeymoon destinations to choose from, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is one of the best. It is considered one of the largest and fastest growing tourist locations in the Caribbean with 40 miles of endless white sand beaches and daily 80-degree temperatures. There is little to distract tourists. Hence, why this destination makes relaxation look easy.

“Often referred to as the Coconut Coast, no resort in Punta Cana is higher than the highest palm tree,” said Christi Rogers, owner of Travel Bug, LLC. “And there is no shortage of palms on Punta Cana.”
It’s no wonder that this area has sprung up with resorts, many of them all-inclusive. All-inclusive resorts include all of your meals and drinks, non-motorized water sports, and gratuities, according to Rogers. Couples should keep in mind if traveling during the spring and summer months, families and children are more likely to be vacationing.
Even though most resorts cater to families, there are a few adults only resorts and some resorts have adults only private designated sections. Gambling is legal in the Dominican Republic. Try to win some money for your honey at a casino. Casinos tend to be at most resorts.
“The Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro is an exclusive and luxurious adults only resort that offers gourmet cuisine and butlers,” Rogers said. “Secrets Resorts recently opened a resort in Punta Cana called the Secrets Royal Beach, which is also adults only and caters to the honeymoon and anniversary clientele.”
In Punta Cana tourists will also find great restaurants, world-class spas, and 19 golf courses. The Punta Espada has more than 7,000 yards covering a par 72-championship course with spectacular scenery and breath-taking views.
“It’s just amazing, you will want to go back again and again, said Keyla Garcia, a former resident, who lived in Santiago, Dominican Republic. “It’s incredible the sand, the beaches, the weather all year round, the people, and the food — everything!”
JetBlue Airways and American Airlines are two of the main airlines that fly into Santo Domingo. The flight time is under four hours with nonstop flights from BWI.
When traveling to Punta Cana, our travel expert had advice to share.
“One thing to remember is that [customs] requires you to purchase a ‘tourist card’ for $10 upon entry into the country,” Rogers said. “This is their form of tax, and this can be purchased in U.S. currency.”
Punta Cana’s official currency is pesos, but not to worry, they take U.S. currency almost everywhere. Do not convert anything over to pesos unless you have too.
As couples watch the sunrise and sunset along the beach, they certainly will not regret their decision to honeymoon in Punta Cana. The consistent weather, friendly locals, and endless entertainment will be sure to keep anyone happy.
